Michael Brent serves in Croatia with the international Christian ministry Cru (Udruga Fokus). Michael's love of God, love of people, and love of the Bible have grown through his 19 years of college student ministry and 12 years of staff development ministry.
Michael currently provides biblical and theological training locally for Cru Croatia (Udruga Fokus) and regionally for Agape Europe as a partner with the Instituted of Biblical Studies (IBS) resource team. Michael received his Philosophy of Science degree from North Carolina State University and his Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Michael lives with his wife Brenda in Zagreb. Daughters Julia, Ana and Claire grew up in Croatia and are now all college students in or close to Raleigh, North Carolina.
The observetheword podcast came about as students from Michael's courses asked for recorded lessons of the lectures. The podcast format allowed Michael to offer that content freely to students and anyone else interested in more Bible input. The podcast format also allowed Michael to consider the biblical text more comprehensively than the limited lecture schedule allowed. The goal of each Bible series is to follow the logic and structure of the particular biblical author, considering details in the text, but not getting stuck in those details.
Completed series on Romans, the Pentateuch, John and Acts supplement four corresponding courses Michael teaches. The Isaiah series complements Michael's Old Testament Survey II course.
